Fingerprint Friday: Love Notes From Grandma

By Ginny (MAD21)

We have a chalkboard in our kitchen for the girls to play with. There is always something drawn on it. They love to write notes to us and each other, and to pretend to be teachers and famous artists they are learning about in school (thanks Miss White!).

We had an extended family gathering at our house not long ago. After everyone had left and I was cleaning up, I happened to look at the chalk board and among the girl's drawings there was this wonderful note from Grandma to our girls.

I know it made them happy to see it the next morning. But it really touched my heart that she took the time to write it before she left the day before. Grandma is covered in God's fingerprints.

Fingerprint Friday: Warm Days and Sunsets

By Ginny (MAD21)

Last week we got a reprieve from the cold temperatures winter brings. It got up to 74. We love snow and all, but at this point in the season having one warm day is like getting one bite of a yummy dessert, it makes you long for more. So on this day we decided to play hooky from all of our family responsibilities after school and headed to the playground. We stayed until God graced us with this amazing sunset (one of his most obvious fingerprints). Reminding us that in the midst of winter, there is hope for what is to come.

Fingerprint Friday: Our Day of Seven

By Ginny (MAD21)

My oldest turned seven the end of January. If you hang around her for any length of time, you'll learn that she loves birthdays. Note: LOOOOVES birthdays. Not just her own either. In her head, she starts planning for her birthday like, a year in advance. All the things she'd love to do, and the friends she'd like to invite. She loves her people. A lot. And she likes to dream.

This year was going to be a good one. They were calling for snow (she loves snow), her birthday was on the third Wednesday of the month, which is a big deal because that is the quarter bake at school (they take a quarter to school and buy a sweet treat at lunch), AND her teacher does cool stuff when it's the kids birthdays, AND we had planned out what she wanted us to make and bring for a snack, AND she knew where she wanted to go for her birthday dinner, AND AND...

Then, it happened. She got sick. The one thing that could ruin it all. The poor thing. I felt so bad for her. We got the snow, almost a foot of it. Which closed school for a few days. No school, no quarter bake, no special birthday with her classmates. Worse, because she was sick, she couldn't go out and play in the snow. Let's just say it was a very long few days.

Then, I got an idea. I said, "You know what we should do? We should have a day of seven!" My oldest loved the idea. So I helped her make a list of seven things we would do to celebrate her seventh year. And so I give you:

Our Day of SEVEN

Fingerprint Friday: Rain

By MAD21

I am the last person you will ever hear asking for it to rain. I love my sunny days. But after a month and a half with no rain and weeks of record breaking temperatures in the 100s, I was ready for it. I have never seen it so dry in our area. For the first time in 22 years, I actually set the sprinklers out to water our lawn. Of course, this is partly due to the new grass seed that was put down after all our yard excavation was completed, but I would have done it anyway because our grass and flowers were dying.

Well, last Saturday the heavens opened. I awoke just before 6:00am to the sound of what can only be described as a waterfall enveloping our house. It poured all day that day and for several days since then. You can almost hear the earth sighing with relief. Thank you Lord, for your cleansing rains. For the refreshing sound and feel of fresh water falling from heaven... covering the earth in your fingerprints.

Fingerprint Friday: Progress

By MAD21

After a long three-year process and issues with the county permitting office for the last two months, we are almost finished with the excavation and regrading of our property. I am so excited. We've been so busy with all the planning and politics, that I had forgotten what it was like to dream about how beautiful it will be when we are done. I am glad to say I've had the opportunity to do just that in the last few days. We still need to get the new fence put in and all the plants and bushes in the ground, but that's just the icing. The hardest part of the project is over.
