Fingerprint Fridays: Sisters

By MAD21

My youngest got out of school a few weeks before her sister. Preschool has a shorter school year than Kindergarten. It was good to have some time alone with her. Not that we don't have enough time together, she only went to school two mornings a week, but still, it was a much more relaxed few weeks.

Our favorite library has a little playground behind it with a path to an awesome pond. We have played on the playground a few times, but had never walked the path all the way to the pond. So one day while we were waiting to go pick her sister, my youngest and I decided to go and investigate. It was so beautiful. The lilly pads were everywhere and were in full bloom. While we were enjoying the view and listening to the frogs talking to each other, I looked down in the water at what I thought was a rock... until it moved.

Fingerprint Fridays: Life Around Us

By MAD21

My mother-in-law lives near a nature conservatory. We enjoy the drive to her house because you never know what kind of wildlife you might see. In the last week, we've seen a Blue Heron, hawks, deer, rabbits, chipmunks and a really cool box turtle.

I know that having a bird choose an area around your house to build it's nest is something lots of people experience, and while there are a lot of people who do not like it, our family loves it. Probably because the birds are good at choosing areas where the mess they make doesn't matter.

We have been watching this nest of Robins (residing on the front porch of my mother-in-law's house) for the last few weeks. My girls have LOVED watching them grow. And were surprisingly happy when they finally left the nest this past weekend.

I love that we can experience these small fingerprints of God, and the joy of watching the animals that live around us. Even the pesky squirrels that eat all the food out of the bird squirrel feeders in our own front yard.

Fingerprint Fridays: Endings and Beginnings

By MAD21

I wrote earlier the week about our oldest graduating kindergarten. One of the things we like to do for big events in our house is have a countdown. My girls just love it. For this particular event, however, the countdown was bitter-sweet. We were all happy that summer was coming and all that it brings. But sad to say good-bye to another year of school (yes, my kids are still young enough that they LOVE school).

I am thankful that God is there for all of our endings, and our beginnings. His fingerprints are always a welcome presence in our lives, but it's in these times they are especially welcome.

Fingerprint Fridays: Birthdays

By MAD21

Well. It happened. I said "good-bye" to my 30s this week. And as weird as it feels to say that I'm 40 <choke-gasp>, I have to say that I am thankful to have another birthday to celebrate, you know, considering the alternative!

I'm thankful for all the birthday wishes I got this week from friends and family. Reminders that even with crazy schedules and so little time to visit with them at this point in our lives, that they are still there loving me. So while this is really just a day marking the moment when I was born into this world, I am happy to have the opportunity to have the time to make that connection with those I love. The best gift ever. A gift covered with the fingerprints of God.

Fingerprint Friday: Signs of Summer

By MAD21

One of the things I love most about summer is fresh fruits and vegetables. Vine ripened strawberries, snap peas, peppers, lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and we can't forget about corn!! I have to admit that aside from an attempt to grow carrots as a child, I have never had my own garden. I've always just benefited from the fruits of my friend's wonderful gardens.

When shopping for our flowers this spring, my daughter's asked if we could get a tomato plant (it was at their eye-level and they saw the picture of the plant). I thought... why not?
