Fingerprint Friday: Fun Fridays

By Ginny (MAD21)

With the insanity that usually takes over our family's week, like most people, it helps to know that not only is the weekend coming, but Friday.

Several years ago, I created "Fun Fridays" at our house. Honestly it was mostly to prevent the constant demand for watching television and movies. I thought it would give the girls something fun to look forward to each week, and gave me an out whenever they wanted to turn on the television. Aside from rainy days (when we also build tents in the living room), it's pretty much the only time we watch movies.

What started out as a necessity for the most part, has turned into a day our family really looks forward to being together. And while we still usually watch at least one movie, we also use that time to play games and just be together (pizza anyone?). I also usually put something special in their lunches, and occasionally surprise the girls with a trip to the playground or a visit by someone special.

I thank God every week not only for the reprieve in our schedule, but also for the joy in the anticipation for the time we have together. I love hearing my girls discuss the long list of things they want to do (usually way too long!). Our Fun Fridays are definitely one of God's fingerprints.

Fingerprint Friday: Generosity

By Ginny (MAD21)

I recently worked on a project with a group of people that was successful only because of the grace of God and generosity of many others. What started out as a simple gift to some homeless families, turned out to be so much more because the resources just kept pouring in. God had some big plans for those families, and for those of us who were answering the call to serve.

I can't begin to tell you how amazing it was to have the opportunity to serve a community of folks who really need to know that God loves them. To step out of reality even if only for an afternoon and just have some fun. I am in awe of the generosity of those who made it all possible. God presented a need, and they stepped up and made it happen. These are fingerprints from God that will hopefully leave a lasting imprint for generations.

Fingerprint Friday: KC's Love

By Ginny (MAD21)

I've talked a little about our family cat KC around here, but its been awhile. I thought it was time she got another post. As I've said before, I know there are people out there who hate cats (you know who you are!), but I still firmly believe that it just means you were never loved by one.

Here's the thing. Dogs love just about everyone. Seriously think about this... have you ever heard of a shy dog? Now cats, on the other hand, they are more selective. Which is why I think there is trouble with people not liking them. Cats don't care. Which is what makes having one love you all the more sweet.

When we first got KC, she was so little. She loved and played with everyone. But now, almost two years later, she, well, doesn't. In fact, her main people (yes, I said HER people) are my oldest and me. She is hot and cold with my youngest, but that's because of normal 4-year-old behavior, and she tolerates my husband. Which is to say that if he is next to me and is sitting on the side she likes to sit on, she might let him sit next to her. Or better yet, she might even sit on his lap when he is sitting in her chair with her blanket.

Fingerprint Friday: Flowers From Daddy

By Ginny (MAD21)

There is one particular day during the year that our girls get very excited. It's a time when they get their Daddy all to themselves.

Once a year our church has a dance party for little girls and their Daddys. Our girls put on their prettiest dresses, and Daddy wears a dress shirt and jacket. But one of the many things they love about this night are the flowers that Daddy buys for them. He makes sure that they each get flowers in their favorite colors, and are just the right size for their little wrists. The giggles they produce are priceless.

It's another example of how Daddy is covered in God's fingerprints.

Fingerprint Friday: Bubble Wrap

By Ginny (MAD21)

The title of this post should probably be "Just for fun Fingerprints" because this post is more on the silly side of things than my usual Friday posts. But honestly, I firmly believe that laughter itself is a fingerprint. Don't you think?

Our family loves simple pleasures, including opportunities to laugh. We were running errands last week and realized what was in the back of this truck we were following. The kids were flipping out. "MOM!! Follow that truck!" As if doing so would result in the driver allowing us to decimate the GIGANTIC roll of bubble wrap he was delivering. But can you imagine??! What an afternoon of fun that would be.
