YOB: #22. Dress Up For Fast Food

By Lara

At this point in the Year of the Birthday, I was looking for something easy for us to do. The year was half over, and we needed more check marks on the list. I warned Beth to bring dressy clothes with her when she came to visit. I figured, since she was coming to my house, I would just match whatever kind of dressy she picked. I was kind of hoping for bride's maid dressy, but I was prepared for anything.

Beth came to my house bearing stockings. Beth hates stockings, so I knew that she was committed to the whole idea. "Dress Up For Fast Food" was scheduled for after the massage. We came home to nap first. Getting a massage makes one sleepy. Trust me.

We had decided that our fast food establishment would be Wendy's. It seemed the least offensive of our options for "fast food." When I mentioned this to my father, he wanted to come. Wendy's is one of his favorite places to eat. I told him that he and Mom could come if they dressed up as well. He pointed out that it was not his birthday list, but reluctantly agreed.

When Beth and I pulled up to the Wendy's establishment closest to where my parents live, they were waiting for us outside. Beth and I were dressed as if for church. My mother, also, looked dressier than usual. My Dad was wearing his standard khaki pants, dress shirt, and tie... with the addition of a baseball hat.

My father only wears hats when he is 1.) very very very cold or 2.) when he does not want the top of his head to get sunburned. He wore the hat to spite me.

Other than that, the dinner went well. We ate, talked, laughed, and took pictures. I'm still annoyed about the hat, though. I think that was his plan all along.

I love that your dad joined you. And I find it hilarious that he wore the hat just to spite you.

I think you should have gone all out and worn the super fancy dresses. Perhaps on the next list you include instead of dressing up, dress up in some crazy costumes or something when it's nowhere near Halloween. :o)
