Fingerprint Friday: The Right Words At The Right Time

By MAD21

This was a stressful week for our family. It started out with hurt feelings. Soon followed by angry words, some crying, more words, and more crying. It's never a good way to start a week.

However, within this rush of emotions and hurtful words was also a huge opportunity to grow, for both my kids and myself. It provided a time when we could all talk about why it's so important to love and respect each other. An opportunity for us to talk about how the words made each of us feel, and how God feels when we hurt each other.

I later took the time to share with my oldest one of my own experiences with the pain words can bring. I saw in her something I haven't seen for awhile. She's been going through some growing herself, struggling with selfishness, worry, and perfection issues. I saw in her a compassion she was born with. A strong empathy for others. But I still wasn't sure she heard me and understood what it was I was trying to teach her.

You never know if what you tell your children reaches the important parts of who they are. Deep in their hearts of understanding. But. Every now and then, something happens that reveals that little part of them that proves to you that they are listening.

One night this week, as we were tucking our girls into bed for the night saying our last "I love you" and giving out hugs and kisses, my oldest says to me, "Mommy?" I said, "Yes?" She said, "You know all my toys and stuff?" I said, "Yes?" She said, "I love you more than all I have. You are more important than all of it." Makes you wonder how God feels when we say the same to him?

I don't know about you, but my children are just covered with the fingerprints of God. And I am so happy he gave the girls to me so that I can experience seeing as each one of those prints is revealed.

Fellow blogger Beki at The Rusted Chain has a really great weekly post she does every Friday called "Fingerprint Friday." We are to look around and see where we can see God's fingerprints. Is it in nature? Kids? Animals? Anywhere? Go find out where Beki saw God this week, and be sure to check out the other bloggers who linked their stories as well.

Sweet ... Love what your daughter said to you!
Good reminder to love my family more than my things ... like laptop/books/etc.
