Works For Me Wednesday: Master Lists

MAD21

Most who know me think I'm an organized person. (Boy do I have them fooled!) I am actually an ADHD procrastinator who has had to find ways of coping over the years so that I can actually accomplish the things I am responsible for. One of the methods I use that helps me is to create master lists. These are lists I keep for things we do more than once.

For example:

Vacations. Write out a list of the things everyone will need, everything. Then when you return home, go through the list again and add or subtract items you want to remember for next time. Keep this list and use it again and again, modifying it each time you go somewhere.

Grocery Shopping. I got tired of going to the grocery store multiple times a week. Not only was it time consuming, I found we actually spent more, therefore, we were always going over our budget. I keep a master list of everything we buy organized by which store we get it from. When it comes time to go shopping again, I pull out the list and cross off whatever we do not need, and add the things that may be missing from the list. When I'm really organized, I'll have coupons and items marked on sale. But starting with the list is so much easier than going into your kitchen with a blank paper looking around to see what you may need at the store.

Ready To Go Lists. We haven't started doing this yet, but will be soon. Our family is getting busier and busier now that our girls are getting older and are able to participate in more things. I'm not sure of any outing we have been on where we don't have to run back inside at least once, or actually turn the car around because we've forgotten something. We are going to hang a white board in our garage that will list the basics of what we need before leaving for things like school, soccer, church, etc...

It probably sounds more cumbersome than it really is. Honestly, if it were hard and time-consuming, believe me, I wouldn't do it. It may be difficult when you are first putting the lists together, but after it's done, it makes life SOOO much easier. And I don't know about you, but I'm all for easier!

Every Wednesday, fellow blogger Kristen at We are THAT Family posts clever ideas for getting things done. She calls it, "Works For Me Wednesday" or WFMW. Be sure to go visit her blog to read her post along with links to other blogs who are participating.

Great ideas once again! I still miss the stickers, but these might make life easier and more tolerable for us OCD types!

I am so with you on this one, Ginny. Trouble is, I can't find my Master List, after scribbling it down. It falls from the fridge door. I'll have to type out one ... one of these days! :)
