Life Is Funny: You Know You're In New York City When...

By MAD21

Favorite funny things we heard and saw on our weekend in NYC

1.  “Arms up.” We were all in our hotel room, some were talking, some were watching TV. In mid-sentence we hear my hubby say, “Arms up!” So a few of us put our arms up and were like, what? My hubby was just referring to something he saw on the TV. Don’t we follow directions well? Or maybe it’s just because we were in NYC.

2.  “I don’t appreciate getting dinged at.” There were probably 1000 rickshaws pulling people in the city. We had more issues with them almost running us over than the NYC taxi cabs!

3.  Boxing squirrels. When walking through Central Park, we had stopped at one point to look at squirrel sitting on a rock. Someone jokingly said, “Uh, we have squirrels at home.” Just then, another squirrel came up around the other side of the rock and started pounding on the other squirrel. It looked like they were boxing. Which leads us to…

4.  Killer squirrels with blow guns. My niece got hit in the leg really hard with an acorn from one of the trees. We were trying to figure out how she got hit at such an odd angle. We determined that it had to be the squirrels scheming against the many tourists walking through the park.

5.  “They’re not from New York.” As we were crossing a street, we stopped short to let a rickshaw go by. The driver said this to his passengers as he smiled and waved at us. We assumed it was because we actually stopped to let him go by instead of making him slam on his breaks to avoid us.

6.  There are vendors on every corner selling pashminas, ties, and sunglasses, and none of them speak English.  I found a pretty pashmina that I wanted. It took me three tries to find someone to help me get it because no one understood what I was saying.

7.  Candy red hair looks ok on some people. And…

8.  Blue hair does not.

9.  A guy crossed the street in front of a car and was nearly hit. He cursed out the driver then held his arms up like he scored a goal in soccer to be cheered by the crowd.

10.  Woman licking the railing to the steps leading to the subway. Nuff said.

My friend and fellow blogger Wendy at Weight..What? has a fun carnival at her blog called "Life is Funny." Every Monday we talk about something in life that we find funny. Be sure to go visit her blog to read her post along with links to other blogs who are participating.

#5 happened to us several times while we were in NYC! :)

My favourite NYC moment was hearing two strangers at a restaurant arguing about baseball. It was such a stereotypical moment.

And BTW, the squirrels in NYC are genetically enhanced!

Licking the railing??? Seriously? What is WRONG with people? Maybe her brain got switched with that of a squirrel... something to think about.
