Things To Pray For Our Children

By Kevin (Shooting the Breeze)

I am blessed to be the dad of three beautiful and wonderful girls. It is a huge privilege and responsibility being a parent. I love my girls dearly and I want what is best for them but I know that I can not raise my girls on my own. On my own I will fall short. Yes, God has blessed me with a great wife but even the two of us can't do it fully together. We need God's help and the best way to seek God's help is through prayer.

Here is what I regularly pray for my girls:

  • They would know God's love for them and His desire to have a relationship with them.
  • They would grow and mature in their relationship with God.
  • They would be salt and light to those around them.
  • God would protect them physically and spiritually.
  • They would be leaders amongst their friends in doing what is right
  • They wouldn't be followers of the crowd.
  • They would be respectful and kind to all that they come in contact with.
  • They would always do their best in whatever they are doing.

The Prayer

By MAD21

My all-time favorite prayer is the one our Father gave to us in Matthew 6:5-15. I prefer the King James version, but mostly because it's the version I memorized as a child. There is something about his kingdom and glory being Forever that gets me every time.

But one of the most beautiful prayers I have ever heard put to music is The Prayer sung by Josh Groban and Charlotte Church. The song was written by David Foster and Carol Bayer Sager for the movie Quest For Camelot. I leave the words here below for you as well as a video. I am so thankful for people who can write words and music, and sing so beautifully that you can almost feel God soaring through your soul. I pray it blesses you the same as it does me.

I pray you'll be our eyes
And watch us where we go
And help us to be wise
In times when we don't know

Can You Hear Me?

By MAD21

“God? Can you hear me? Are you there?” Wow. How many times have all of us asked God those questions? One has to wonder if He ever gets tired of hearing it. Like a parent who hears their child ask them the same question for the 100th time. Or even like the cell phone commercial that has the guy walking all over the world in odd places saying, “Can you hear me now?”

Whether you are in a place where everything is going great for you, or you are caring for a sick loved one, looking for a job, or are feeling desperate for any reason, trust me, He ALWAYS wants to hear from you. Just as a parent will ALWAYS want their child to come to them, God will always want you.

If you are a parent, you know how happy you are when you talk to someone you love when you have been away for a long time, but when you talk to your child, that happiness is so intense it can take you to your knees. To hear that sweet little voice (or older mature voice) reaches right into your soul.

So think about it. If we feel that kind of deep, passionate love for our children, how much more does our Heavenly Father feel for us?

If it’s been awhile since you’ve had a chat with God, I encourage you to find the time. He is there waiting for you with open arms.

Why Should I Pray?

By Jason, M.Ed., M.A.R., Headmaster

As Christians, we are told to pray without ceasing (I Thess. 5:17). But many of us still may struggle with understanding the purpose of prayer. Why should we pray? Does it really change God’s mind or plans?

We should pray because God asks us to pray. Think about the wonder of that statement. The God who created time and space invites us to pour out our hearts before Him. He invites us to share our burdens and longings with Him.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (I Peter 5:7, NIV)

“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.” (Psalm 55:22, NIV)

We should pray because God listens to our prayers. God has promised to hear us when we pray to Him. He is never too busy to hear His children.

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. (I John 5:14, NIV)

The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. (Psalm 34:17, NIV)

Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. (Psalm 55:17, NIV)

The Power Of Prayer

By Roger

I hope people aren't getting tired of hearing about my cancer and treatment. But this is a very important part of my life. There was a time back in September of 2008 that I was almost put in hospice where I was told they would keep me comfortable until my death. Now I'm not afraid of death, but I wasn't ready. I opted to stay home and it turned out to be the best option.
