Life Is Funny: Present Pusher and Pattycake

By Ginny (MAD21)

December is our cat KC's favorite time of year. Why you might ask? Well, our couch is moved in front of the front window where the afternoon sun shines in which makes a comfy place to stretch out while taking her afternoon nap. But not only that, we have our Christmas tree up. If she isn't on the back of the couch, she is under the tree. We even have a little ornament hanging in the center of one of the bottom branches just for her entertainment.

As is our tradition, we put up all of our Christmas decorations the weekend after Thanksgiving. And not to make anyone envious or anything, but we also have most of our Christmas shopping done, and presents wrapped. KC has spent the last week diving in and out from under the tree. And since I am the object of most of her pouncing/attacking, you can be sure that I am aware of the fact that I will be attacked any time I am walking near the tree. No claws and all in fun, of course.

What has been funny this year, however, is that KC has somehow decided that she no longer is happy with the little space that we leave for her under the tree. She is now resorting to pushing all of the presents back out from under the tree. So, several times a day I find myself having to push the few gifts we still have actually sitting under the tree back into place. I figure it just adds to her long list of things to do during the day. Maybe, eventually, she'll get tired of moving the gifts and will just settle for the space we've left her... in theory anyway. She is a cat after all.

Unfortunately, I don't have any video of KC pushing the presents out from under the tree. That would be awesome, I know, but she's too stealth about it. But here is a hilarious video that someone put together in case you feel something lacking.

My friend and fellow blogger Wendy at Weight..What? has a fun carnival at her blog called "Life is Funny." Every Monday we talk about something in life that we find funny. Be sure to go visit her blog to read her post along with links to other blogs who are participating.

Every Day Life: All I Want For Christmas...

By Beth M

People constantly ask me what I want for Christmas, here are a few things I tell them:

All I want for Christmas is a day off, seriously, this whole working full time, being a grown-up is overrated.

All I want for Christmas is for my car to last the winter, that's all, just until I can save for a new-to-me one.

All I want for Christmas is a husband, but not really, I'm way too independent for that. How about just someone to go to movies with and snuggle with on the couch? I know…..

…..All I want for Christmas is a puppy! Oh, wait, you can't take them to the movies. Never mind.

Every Day Life: Thanksgiving

By Lara

Several years ago, my mother approached me regarding our family tradition of Thanksgiving. She felt that Thanksgiving hadn't felt festive since my grandfather died. I agreed with her. She asked me for suggestions for making a more festive holiday. I set to work immediately.

I spent some time thinking about what we used to do to make Thanksgiving festive during my elementary school years. I remember dressing up as a pilgrim. I remember shaking a jar of cream for 6 hours trying to make butter. I remember making turkeys out of hand prints. I remember making maracas out of dried seeds, brown paper, and popsicle sticks. However, I do not remember any Thanksgiving SONGS. I had thought that "Over the River and Through the Woods" was a Thanksgiving song (probably because of the pumpkin pie reference), but I was mistaken. It's a Christmas song.

Every Day Life: Going Bananas

By Beth M

Growing up a pastor's kid I wasn't allowed out on Halloween night. I thought it was just my dad being mean, but seems he had other reasons which, as an adult, I can understand, even if I don't agree with them. My kids go trick-or-treating every year; it's just a fun night for them. Dressing up is always fun.

Last year on Halloween I thought how fun it would be to hide in the bushes by our front door and jump out at people when they come. We get mostly college kids, living right next to Philadelphia Biblical University. My mom works there as do several of our neighbors, and the kids like to visit the professors on Halloween. I debated what kind of costume to get for this year's Halloween, the Scream guy, Jason, werewolf, etc. but settled on a gorilla. It wasn't until a few weeks before Halloween this year that I finally got it though. Lara and I just happened to be in Target, I had dragged her back to the seasonal section where there were some Christmas decorations up. I love Christmas, started decorating early sometime about the year my brother and I decorated the whole house for Christmas, including tree, cookies and music, while my mom was at a faculty workshop in August. But that's another story. This story belongs to the gorilla suit.

Every Day Life: Time Change

By Lara

Anyone who knows me knows that I abhor time change. I would be perfectly content to live my life within the normal parameters of Eastern Standard Time regardless of the change of seasons. I have no need for it to be light out until 9 PM in June. While I was sitting at my desk today enduring the longest Monday on record in the history of the world, I started to think about the strange occurrences that tend to follow me around that thwart my best efforts to prepare myself for the shock to my bio-rhythmic system.

Last year during time change, I tried to go to sleep early to take full advantage of my extra hour. Part of my problem with time change is my love of sleep. I intended to maximize the time that I could be snuggled under the covers with my cat. I'm sure that I was asleep by 9:45. It was cozy and warm.
